Estela started her journey in the arts as a musician. Trained as a flutist, keyboardist and drummer, she played classical and jazz music in Athens and Malmö jam nights and live concerts.
In the summer of 2015 she travelled to Lesvos to volunteer for 10 days helping people during the height of the refugee inflows from the Syrian civil war. Since then she has been actively involved with the immigrant population of Greece, mostly as a member of Metadrasi, offering interpretation services and direct material support to immigrants in need.
2019 was the year when she decided to officially study photography, with the intention of becoming a documentarian and a photojournalist. So, she joined the 2 year photography program of AKTO school and did her internship first as a fashion photographer and then as the photography resident at the Athens Museum of Modern Art - EMST.
In July of 2025 she created The Missing Pixel, with her partner Chris and their 3 cats.
First a student of Chemistry and then of Computer Science, Chris has spent most of his time working as a programmer. His first job was in Athens, but after the financial crisis of 2012 he had the opportunity to find a welcoming team at a Malmö startup, Neo4j.
While in Malmö, he developed a taste for photography, which he pursued on his own and has been developing ever since.
In late 2024 he permanently moved back to Athens and joined Estela in creating The Missing Pixel.
Zen, Banana and Marla are three cats who were saved from the streets of Athens. They grace Estela and Chris with their presence and let them take care of them with snacks, naps and pats. They are not particularly interested in the practice of photography, although they are the most beautiful creatures to pose in front of the lens.
And they know it.
The five of them are The Missing Pixel, a photography team in Athens, Greece. All of them can be found in their small back yard studio, arranging props, making photographs or just basking in the sun.
They will be happy to meet you and talk about photography, or the best cat treats.
